Elements of Art *Waitlist

Students will be introduced to the elements of art through six different projects. A variety of art media will be used. This course provides an excellent base for further study in visual art

Canadian Wildlife
Course Fee $50

Students will create a number of different pieces of art inspired by Canadian wildlife. A variety of painting techniques will be introduced and explored as students create their own original works of art.

Mini Masters

Students will study the work of four prominent artists. Using a variety of media and techniques they will produce their own original pieces inspired by each artist.

Clay Creations

An introductory course for working with clay. Students will try a variety of sculpting techniques and create their own original works.

Drawing Canadian Wildlife *Waitlist

A drawing course that explores a wide variety of pencil drawing techniques. Students will learn to produce quality pencil drawings that are accurately rendered and fully shaded. No experience is necessary, but it is recommended that registered students have an attention span for drawing.

Canada’s Great Artists

Students will study the work of a number of prominent Canadian artists including Tom Thompson, Emily Carr and Lawren Harris. They will explore a variety of acrylic painting techniques and produce several paintings on canvas.

Painting Basics-Still Life

A step by step course that introduces students to still life painting techniques. Students will set up their own still life in the first week and spend the remaining classes on a detailed painting. Topics covered include composition, photography basics, paint mixing and shading.

Painting Basics-Landscape

IM4 February 5, 12, 26, March 5
Students will study the work of prominent landscape artists and learn to compose their own original landscape paintings. Paintings will be done in acrylic on canvas.

High School Credit Course, Grade Nine Level
Course Fee: $200

This course provides a foundation for further study in the visual arts. Students will experiment with different media as they explore the art produced by a variety of cultures. They will learn to analyze various forms of art and place them in a historical context. There is a strong emphasis on the elements and principles of design, colour theory and art history. Students meet with the instructor once a month. The majority of the studio component of the course is done independently between classes. Students (and parents) should be prepared to incorporate art homework into their daily schedule for the duration of the class. All materials are provided, however, students must have a set of acrylic paint at home to complete assignments.
