Media Exploration
A fun and messy course where students can try out a variety of art materials including watercolour, crayon resist, chalk pastel and print making.

Mini Masters (WAIT LIST)
Students will study the work of Tom Thomson, Leonardo DaVinci, Pieter Bruegel, and Georgia O’keefe. Using a variety of media and techniques they will produce their own original pieces inspired by each artist.

Birds and Botanicals
A drawing course that will improve students’ sight drawing and shading skills. We will draw a variety of birds and plants from life and photo reference.

Figure Drawing
This drawing course will cover the basics of gesture drawing. Students will learn to draw the human figure in a variety of poses.

Making Faces
Students will improve their drawing skills as they focus on techniques for drawing the human face. The course will begin with an in depth look at the proportions of the face followed by studies of a variety of facial expressions. One class will be spent on cartooning and anime.

The Impressionists
The impressionists mastered painting the effects of light in outdoor settings. In this course students will study the work of well known impressionist painters and apply their techniques to the production of one landscape painting on canvas.

Thursdays, 1:10-3:00pm, Alternating weeks, second semester only
This course provides a foundation for further study in the visual arts. Students will experiment with different media as they explore the art produced by a variety of cultures. They will learn to analyze various forms of art and place them in a historical context. There is a strong emphasis on the elements and principles of design, colour theory and art history. Students meet with the instructor once a month. The majority of the studio component of the course is done independently between classes. Students (and parents) should be prepared to incorporate art homework into their daily schedule for the duration of the class. All materials are provided, however, students must have a set of acrylic paint at home to complete assignments.
